Police are urging residents to not keep large amounts of cash at home after a woman in her 80s was targeted.

Thieves broke into a home off Church Road in Kelvedon between 6.30pm and 10pm yesterday, while the home owner was at bingo.

They stole cash and a lottery ticket, worth a combined £170.

Investigating Officer Dc Mel Burns said: "I would urge people to keep the amounts of cash in their homes to a minimum and be mindful of crime prevention advice, especially this time of year when thieves may try and take advantage of the festive season.”

Crime prevention advice is available on www.essex.police.uk Anybody with information about the burglary or who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Dc Mel Burns on Essex Police 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
