COLCHESTER hospital’s search for a chief operating officer continues after none of five candidates interviewed were offered the job.
The lack of appointment means the hospital will continue with interim officers–who earn about £1,000 a day.
Evelyn Barker, interim chief operating officer since January, is due to step down this month.
She will be the eighth director to leave in the last year.
She will be replaced by interim officer Sandy Spencer, who has held a string of short-term roles at hospitals including Southend and Brighton.
Interviews for the role took place last week.
The Gazette understands five people were interviewed, including candidates who had worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, in Harlow, and King’s College Hospital, in London.
A trust spokesman said: “No appointment was made so the trust will continue with the interim arrangements it has in place.”
The trust has been in special measures since November 2013, when the Care Quality Commission found staff had been bullied into falsifying cancer data.
