FLOWER-LOVERS are celebrating after Colchester was nominated for the prestigious Britain in Bloom competition.

Anglia in Bloom, which runs the regional competition, said Colchester would be put forward for next year as the best city in the east of England.

It is the second time Colchester has come out top and been put forward for the national award.

Pam Schomberg, chairman of Colchester in Bloom, said: “It was a huge surprise and we are delighted. We did Britain in Bloom in 2013 and came away with a silver gilt. This time Colchester is going for gold. We are going to need the whole town to get behind us 100 per cent.

We have really got to get our heads down as it’s a huge honour.”

It was good news for Halsted, too, which was named the gold and joint category winner in its town section of Britain in Bloom.

The winners were revealed yesterday at a ceremony in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

Colchester’s nomination means it will benefit from having a designated Anglia in Bloom judge guiding them through next year’s entry.
