FOR once it was John Warner’s turn to be served coffee and cake...and what a place to go for it!

It happened when the stalwart care home volunteer was invited to Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister as a thank you for his years of service.

Mr Warner, 89, has been offering refreshments and a friendly smile to residents at New Copford Place care home every day for four years.

This week, he was invited to meet David Cameron, Leader of the House William Hague and Chief Whip Michael Gove and to be waited on by Downing Street staff.

Mr Warner, of Dorothy Curtis Court, Copford, said: “I initially said I didn’t want to go, but my manager twisted my arm."
