Firefighters rescued an unconscious man from his home after fire broke out early today.

The man, believed to be in his sixties, was found following a search by crews in breathing apparatus using a thermal image camera.

He had breathed in smoke and had to be carried from the house in Meadow Way, Jaywick.

Paramedics were called and cared for the man.

The fire, which is thought to have started accidentally, broke out at 3.30am today and three crews had it extinguished by 4.19am.
