A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the James Attfield investigation has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The 19-year-old is due to report back on Sunday.

Last night, detectives released new CCTV footage of two people they want to speak with in connection with the James Attfield murder.

James, known as Jim, was stabbed more than 100 times on a path near to Lower Castle Park, Colchester, on March 29.

He died shortly before 6am.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett has issued new CCTV footage of two people, seen in East Street, leaving a pathway which connects through to Castle Park, between 4.29am and 4.43am.

He said: "It is possible these two people may have got to this location by a route which did not take them near where James' body was found but equally they may well have seen something that would be of great interest to us.

"Either way we would like them to come forward so they can tell us what they know and be eliminated from enquiries.

"If you were either of these people then I would urge you to get in contact with my team.”

Jim, 33, from the East Bay area of the town, was last seen in the River Lodge pub on Middleborough on Friday March 28.

He left there shortly after 10pm and there are no confirmed sightings of him after that time until he was found in the park the next day.

Police will also be out in Colchester tomorrow night to speak to people in the town on the sixth-month anniversary of the dad-of-five’s murder.

Uniformed officers and detectives will be speaking to any members of the public travelling through Castle Park and the surrounding area during the evening and also visiting nearby pubs.

DCI Werrett said: "If anyone thinks they have any information I would urge them to speak to my team.

"We have also recently put up posters, featuring CCTV images of six unidentified men, we would still like to speak to. We originally issued 21 CCTV images of 23 people we wanted to identify and these six are the only ones that are yet to come forward.

"There could be numerous reasons as to why this is this case but we really need to find out who they are. They could hold crucial information that will help in identifying James’ murderer.

"I believe the answer to identifying the people in these images will lie within the community and especially those who go out in the town on a Friday night.”

Detectives are continuing to quiz a 19-year-old man arrested in Colchester on Wednesday afternoon, on suspicion of killing James.
