FORMER students and staff returned home to their academic home to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Essex.
More than 4,000 people attended the Homecoming weekend at the Colchester campus to take a trip down memory lane and enjoy what the university has to offer.
The three days of celebrations to mark the beginning of the anniversary year included a nostalgia music night in the Sub Zero nightclub and a Blues Brothers tribute night at Wivenhoe House.
An exhibition entitled Something Fierce, Essex Essex: Vision and Reality explored the controversial Sixties, architecture on the Colchester campus and the academic vision of founding vice- chancellor Sir Albert Sloman.
There was also music, magic, zorb football, zumba, a climbing wall, interactive campus trails and tug of wars.
Campus tours gave graduates a chance to revisit their old haunts and there was a chance catch up with long lost friends at department reunions.
NEWSQUEST has produced a special 68-page publication to mark the university’s 50th anniversary.
The magazine features about 100 photographs, including rare archive images.
There are also interviews with the first student, the current vice- chancellor Anthony Forster and other key figures in the university’s success.
Copies, costing £4.99, are available from the campus shop, Red Lion Bookshop in Colchester High Street and Wivenhoe Bookshop or by going to www.essexcounty standard.co.uk/universityofessex
