A 21-YEAR-OLD driver from Colchester is in a critical condition after suffering serious head injuries when he crashed into a zebra crossing post in Colchester.
Emergency services were called to the entrance of the Tesco store, at the Hythe, after the silver Ford Fiesta crashed into the post at about 3.20am on Saturday.
The man was taken to Colchetser Hospital, but was then transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “He is currently in a stable but critical condition.
“Investigating officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses who saw the crash or the moments leading up to the incident.
“A white medium-sized car stopped at the scene and officers want to trace the occupant of this vehicle as they may hold vital witness information.”
Witnesses are urged to contact PC Dawn Senior, at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, on 101 or via email at collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
