Greetings from Germany! Today we crossed over the Dutch/German border almost right at the end of our 81-mile slog on the fifth day of our challenge.

The parts of Holland we saw on our way were beautiful in places, but the monotony of the scenery, along with one long, flat road followed by another long, flat road became "mind blowingly boring" according to Andy "Woody" Woodbridge and I'd have to agree.

Our spirits were high when we set off having had a good meal and a couple of extra hours sleep on Tuesday night and physically we felt OK. My knee was niggling a bit, but you expect that after cycling just shy of 350 miles!

The sun came out for our departure and we were off. However our cruising was short lived - John mistakenly left the support car keys in his pocket so after arranging a meeting point with our drivers, Charlotte and Ash, he told us to go on and he'd catch us up or get dropped off further along the route so we could catch him up...he ended up doing 45 miles solo though!

We didn't all meet up again until after lunch!

To plug the growing chasm of boredom, we begged each other to play a game so then came a quick fire quiz, which included questions such as "what's your favourite colour", "celebrity you'd most like to marry", "favourite holiday" and "favourite breakfast cereal" - it managed to pass about 15 minutes!

Gazette:

Although I have been very impressed with the cycle paths on the continent, mopeds are also allowed to use them,a concept which has baffled all of us not least because of the speed they travel compared to a regular push bike!

While John was on his own he was rammed by one and threatened by the driver with police action - even though it was their fault! Thankfully the situation was resolved and neither John or his bike were harmed, but if it was up to me the rules would be different!

Day six will be our longest so far - 85 miles, but then we will almost be in Hamelin - amazing! Our first day in Birmingham feels like a lifetime ago now!
