COLCHESTER’S Quaker Meeting House will open to the public to mark the outbreak of the First World War.

The organisation’s open day will take place on Saturday, September 13.

There will be two exhibitions open to the public.

The World is My Country tells the untold story of people who opposed the war and the women who put forward peace initiatives.

The second is made up of paintings about peace by artist and peace campaigner Phoebe P Willetts.

It will be curated by her daughter, Ann Dowden, a Colchester Quaker.

General information on the Quakers will also be available, between 10am and 4pm at the Church Street building.

Refreshments will be available and admission is free.
