PEOPLE heading to West Mersea’s Town Regatta tomorrow can look forward to a day of live music, races and water sports.

The annual event, which dates back to 1838, will begin at 9am with sailing races and end with a £6,000 firework display.

On the shore there will be stalls selling local crafts and food and drink, alongside a variety of children’s entertainment.

Next of Kin, The Ragged String Band and Big Sunshine Sundown are just some of the bands due to take to the stage during the day.

Water sports begin at 2.30pm, and there will also be swimming races for those willing to brave the cold temperatures.

The popular greasy pole competition is back for another year, as it the best dressed boat award.

The day will finish with a prize giving ceremony at 7.30pm outside the Old Lifeboat Station, followed by a 20 minute fireworks display.

Last year’s display had to be cancelled due to bad weather.
