A TALENTED young rugby player will walk on Wembley’s historic turf in front of 80,000 fans after being chosen as a ballboy at the Challenge Cup final.

Harry Luckman, 15, is one of just 14 youngsters who will man the sidelines at this Saturday’s clash between Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tiger in what is the rugby league equivalent of the FA Cup Final.

The Philip Morant pupil was put forward for selection by Pete Le Marquand, his coach at the Colchester-based Eastern Rhinos rugby league club, for being an almost ever-present prop in the under 16s team.

Harry has managed to play most weeks despite having to manage the Type 1 Diabetes he has suffered from since he was a toddler.

Dad Robert said: “Harry hasn’t missed a training session and he always wants to represent the club.

“He has even played through a broken thumb in two of the games. He only sat one out when we realised he’d broken it.

“It’s more remarkable for me as he’s had diabetes since he was three and now has insulin injections three or four times a day.

“He’s been through a lot with it - he’s been in and out of hospital but he’s now got it under control.”

Leeds Rhinos fan Harry, of Stanway, will spend the day at Wembley and hopes to meet his heroes including their stalwart prop Jamie Peacock.

Robert added: “It’s quite an honour and he’s so overjoyed about it.”
