HUNDREDS of Irish travellers are coming to Colchester for a wedding and three day reception starting tomorrow.

Among them are several families staying in about a dozen caravans, who arrived on Friday and parked on a private industrial unit on Severalls Industrial Estate.

Employees arrived at Chameleon Group Ltd, Brunel Way, this morning to find their car park had become a caravan park.

Despite 24 hour CCTV, barbed wire fences, padlocked metal gates and security patrols the travellers from Donegal were able to access the site.

One man, who would not be named, said: "We are here for a wedding. We got here Friday and the reception will be three days.

"There are about 500 coming. A lot more will be arriving for the wedding here."

Officers from Essex Police visited the site this morning to speak to the travellers.

Chameleon Group Ltd, a telecommunications company specialising in parking sensors and vehicle trackers, declined to comment.

3.30pm - The travellers have moved on from the car park after four days at the site.

It is not yet clear where they have moved to.
