Plans for a hotel on the site of a town centre bar have been downscaled due to fears it would obscure a listed building.

Elysium Group, owner of River Lodge bar and restaurant, in Middleborough, Colchester, want to create a four-storey hotel complex on the site.

A 74-bedroom development had originally been mooted, but a new planning application includes only 43 bedrooms.

Application agent Blue Sky Planning, acting on behalf of Elysium, warned the current business was not sustainable.
