A WEBSITE has been launched as a campaign to protect part of a field threatened with development gathers pace.
Myland Community Councillor John Stewart spearheaded the idea to give the land off Mill Road, Colchester, Village Green status to preserve it.
He has been backed by fellow councillors.
The call comes after Colchester Council unveiled plans to move Colchester Rugby Club from their current base at Mill Road to a new sporting complex and business park near the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Concerns have been raised the land at Mill Road will be sold for housing to fund the move and that residents will lose recreation areas.
The campaign website, called Save Myland's Green Spaces, can be found at http://johnca9.wix.com/myland-village-green
Visitors to the site are urged to email councillors and Colchester’s MP, Sir Bob Russell, in support of the Village Green proposal.
