A museum curator is using social media to tell the story of a heroic First World War soldier.

Colchester’s Hollytrees Museum is recounting the life of Conrad Mason, who served with the 10th Essex Regiment in the Great War.

The former Colchester Royal Grammar School pupil was killed, aged 24, on October 1, 1917, by an explosive shell while trying to help an injured colleague in Belgium.

A Twitter account has been set up to post extracts of his diary and letters home.

Ciara Canning, curator, believes Twitter provides an appropriate medium to present his story.

She said: "We have got a really rich archive of letters and diaries, which is pretty amazing."
