Travellers due to be evicted pitch up elsewhere in Colchester

Gazette: Travellers due to be evicted pitch up elsewhere in Colchester Travellers due to be evicted pitch up elsewhere in Colchester

TRAVELLERS due to be evicted from land beside the Weston Homes Community Stadium have moved onto non-league club football pitches and warned they will stay as long as they can.

Six caravans arrived on the Gas Recreation Ground, off Bromley Road, in Colchester, early this morning.

One family, who arrived separately from Maidstone, in Kent, told The Gazette today: “We’ll stay here as long as we can - until we’re kicked off really.”

Mark Ennew, Gas Rec FC club chairman, has warned the travellers could cause thousands of pounds worth of damage, which would delay the club’s start to the pre-season.

He said: “We have just spent three months doing the pitches up to make them respectable for the start of the season.

“This could cost us thousands of pounds, just like last time.”

Two years ago, travellers pitched up on the rec ground, which has two pitches, for more than two months because no eviction order was made by the landowner.

Club bosses say they had to pay £2,500 to fix large holes in the pitch and to surrounding trees in 2012.

The club is due to play its first pre-season friendly on Saturday, but it is unlikely the travellers will have moved on by then.

Let's hope that the landlord decides to be more proactive this time - of course, having just had a planning application turned down, i suspect he's eager to show the Council what will happen regularly if he isn't allowed to develop the land, so I expect we local residents will have to put up with this again for months. No security on the site, fences broken, etc, etc - hardly trying to prevent their return. I hope the club refuse to pay any rent to him whilst the pitches are not in use, and the Council should sue him for damages. This is also right next to a primary school, remember. It's the site landlord who is the villain here

As far I am aware the club use the pitch rent free in return of the upkeep, which alone is an expensive business with no facilities to generate income.
I hope the residents of salary close and co stand by their decision to oppose the plans in years to come as I am led to believe the owner will just shut up shop if the plans fail and let it become a haven for vandalism and overgrowth and the welcome of the gypsies which will stay even longer if the club is not their.
Who could really blame the landlord as he receives nothing for his grief .
Maybe the residents of Roach Vale would support the plan as the area around the school causes blockage and highway dangers and surely children's safety is prominent with the parking for the school at the club during term time.

What puzzles me is the vehicles they own must be registered and insured to an address - If they have an address why are they merrily squatting in a field where they have no right to be? On that note I thought squatting was now a criminal offence.

So in other words the landlord (are you in fact he, as you seem to have insight as to his intentions) is blackmailing both the Council and the local residents into accepting the planning application? Here's a thought - if the landlord is so unhappy and gets 'grief' why not sell up and let the land be used for the benefit of the wider community?

So are you the landlord or do you know/work for him?

If so, here are some clues as to why local residents oppose the scheme 1/ it involve the destruction of existing houses 2/ it tries to cram as many sub-standard homes in as posisble 3/it doesn't offer access from the Bromley Road, but a private estate and 4/ is not built by a reputable company, but by a profiteering chancer!

And here's another clue - if the landlord fails to maintain land or property and it becomes a pubic health hazard, the Council can apply for compulsory purchase through the courts. perhaps the landlord will think carefully before inviting travellers onto the land...

I think there might be more sympathy if places were left in good nick when they move on. But they never are. Is it really so hard to bag rubbish up and at least make some attempt to clear up? It would really help the image of travellers if they did so, but they clearly don't care about that.

No not the landlord or fully aware of the ins and outs of the case, I tend to watch the games at the club and so only pick snippets of the ongoing planning.
But with obesity on the rise and people encouraged to exercise I am pretty sure 4 adults clubs use the clubs facilities on Saturday and Sundays and with 3 kids teams local sides also uses facilities to train etc surely with the council already sold off Greenland with a lack of sufficient pitches surely this should be encouraged or at least some agreement between all concerned parties.

And here's another clue - if the landlord fails to maintain land or property and it becomes a pubic health hazard, the Council can apply for compulsory purchase through the courts. perhaps the landlord will think carefully before inviting travellers onto the land...[/p][/quote]No not the landlord or fully aware of the ins and outs of the case, I tend to watch the games at the club and so only pick snippets of the ongoing planning. But with obesity on the rise and people encouraged to exercise I am pretty sure 4 adults clubs use the clubs facilities on Saturday and Sundays and with 3 kids teams local sides also uses facilities to train etc surely with the council already sold off Greenland with a lack of sufficient pitches surely this should be encouraged or at least some agreement between all concerned parties. ginger magician

If you think they are so lovely Rose then perhaps you should invite them to set up camp in your garden & you will be more than welcome to the mess, swearing, noise, dogs barking all night, loud music & shouting!

So Rose, are you one of them who insist on being called a traveller, but want to live in a house?.
What taxes do the pay?
Council Tax ?
Income tax ?
National Insurance ?
Road Tax ?
Water and sewerage ?

I think it`s none of the above
Well it got nothing to do with u what I pay who are you to judge God !!!
Rose, please just look at the responses above. They are an honest reaction to what always happens. I have to clean up after your friends visits. It us disgusting. Nappies, human poo, waste food. And then there us the rubbish, junk that had been removed from honest people's houses at a charge - and then illegally dumped - usually includes asbestos roof coverings. Please think of it another way - how would the travellers deal if the population of Colchester arrived and dumped the same crap in your caravans? All you guys have to do is book a skip for general waste to be left at where ever you camp. It's not going to cost more than £ 200 - that would make such a difference to people's attitude to you.

And one other point Rose, one of my clients does not mess about. They call in a company from Wales - costs £970 - but you travellers are gone in 24 hours.
