An ex-England striker has joined amateur football teams in a tournament to raise £3,000 for a terminally ill girl from Halstead.
Jimmy Greaves opened the event in Sible Hedingham and watched Hedingham Veterans take on present day players to raise money for four-year-old Millie Brown.
Millie, who lives on Ronald Road, Halstead, fell ill in April and was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumour after being rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Visitors bid for donated prizes at an auction which was held after the tournament on Lawn Meadow, in Yeldham Road, Sible Hedingham on Saturday.
Millie’s mum Lisa Stock said: “The support we have received has been absolutely excellent."
The campaign is set to reach the £30,000 mark this week as incredible community spirit has spurred on the fundraising.
