Colchester Zoo is removing a plaque marking the date disgraced entertainer Rolf Harris opened its elephant enclosure.
The Spirit of Africa enclosure at the zoo was officially opened by the Australian presenter in April 1998.
Harris, 84, was found guilty of 12 indecent assaults on women and children by a jury at Southwark Crown Court yesterday.
After a picture of the plaque was posted on Twitter, a reply from the zoo’s account said: “Thanks for highlighting this, we are having the plaque removed.”
Colchester Zoo declined to comment further on its decision to remove the plaque.
Harris will be sentenced on Friday.
