A PATROLLING police officer was injured when she tried to break up a town centre brawl.

Officers saw the fight taking place near a bridal shop in Queen Street, Colchester, shortly before 3:30am yesterday.

They intervened and during the arrest of two men, a female officer was punched in the face.

She was taken to Colchester General Hospital by paramedics and is now recovering at home.

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address and a 29-year-old man from Colchester were arrested in connection with the fight and are currently on police bail until Tuesday, August 12 pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information in connection with this assault is urged to contact the town’s neighbourhood policing team on 101.

In less than a week we have read about two police officers being attacked whilst on duty in the town centre. Its about time a serious re-think is needed with regards to our nigh time economy as it can not showing any return to the council tax payer in Colchester.

It's not the nighttime economy thats occupying police time at the moment so be extra carefull when on the town at night people.
