A TOWN centre nightclub is set to re-open after it closed in controversial circumstances.

Tribal closed at the end of May, when former owner Jimmy Kingston was locked in a licensing and planning battle with Colchester Council.

Now Jason Fury, 29, has taken over the club, in St Botolph’s Circus, in Colchester, and plans to extend the venue’s opening hours until 3.30am on weekends.

He also hopes to open during the week to attract students from Essex University.

Mr Fury, a former computer game designer, from Earls Colne, said: “When the opportunity came up, it was hard to turn down.

“I’ve always wanted to be on the other side of the rope, so to speak and with Tribal there was a lot of things already in place, like contacts and promoters.”

The club will re-open with a pre-arranged event on Saturday, June 28.
