LUCKY school kids have been treated to a new outdoor classroom, built by award-winning architects.

Little ones at Fordham All Saints Primary School, in Mill Road, Fordham, officially opened the new classroom, which has enough room for 30 kids, on Saturday after four architects from Colchester-based HAT Projects spent last half term building the structure from scratch.

The project came about after the school’s parent teacher association and community group Friends of Fordham raised enough money to buy a standard shelter for the school.

But HAT’s directors Tom Grieve and Hana Loftus, who have children at the school, suggested something a bit more unique for the school.

They were joined in the project by Kent Blaxill and Wesbroom Engineering.

Mr Grieve said “Although we work on projects all over the country, we are strongly committed to our local area and try to get involved with projects that directly benefit our community as much as we can.

“Working with the school kids and their fantastic imaginations was a real joy, and we’re excited to see everyone now starting to use the structure as we had all imagined.”

Stuart Wainwright, headteacher at the school added “The new structure gives the children an opportunity to learn more outside and appreciate the wonderful grounds our school is lucky to have.”

The new classroom will be used by each class one day a week from September in a bid to boost kids’ learning knowledge of the environment.
