Football fans will have a choice of big screens across Colchester as England kick off their World Cup campaign tomorrow night.

Roy Hodgson’s team will face Italy in Manaus, Brazil, at 11pm.

Licensing laws have been relaxed for the tournament, allowing pubs to stay open until 1am when England matches kick-off at 8pm or later.

For those fans who decide against watching the big match at home, a range of town centre venues will be showing every kick.

The Marquis, on North Hill, will be screening World Cup matches on a new outdoor TV in its beer garden.

Molloy’s, also on North Hill, will also be showing all England’s games.

Fans will also be able to catch matches on big screens at venues including River Lodge, in Middleborough, Rumbarosa, in Queen Street, Fashion Cafe Bar, in St Botolph’s Street, the Norfolk, in North Station Road, and Yates, in Head Street.

The Playhouse, in St Johns Street, is showing all matches on its projector screen and will be open until 2am following England’s match tomorrow night.

Essex Police has launched an anti drink driving campaign to coincide with the World Cup.

Breath tests will be conducted after matches, and on the morning after games, to check drivers are not over the limit.
