when will they learn to behave themselves and cohabit with us properly.
I say send them all back to southern Ireland if they carry on like this.
Its funny that lot over there don't want them yet they are quite happy to bung them over the water and stuff them with us.
When in Rome you do as the Romans do, i for one have had enough of the TV shows, all that display of wealth, only some can dream of.
It is about time it was stopped and stopped for good. I have heard all the stories from this lot, they don't care and they do NOT contribute to our society, they take far more than anything they give back. Go away with your violence and stealing we do not want you anymore.

It's a bit pathetic that you judge the whole travelling community on one or two family's don't you think???
On that basis, are you going to lock up the whole estate that James Atwells murderer is from?

Good to see the police do their job well. It's a positive story.

If the Old Bill don't get any successful prosecutions out of what they turned up during the warrant Searches they could always console themselves by collaring the BWT Editor for allowing publication of the 'P' word submitted by liquorice-allsorts

Ii is interesting to note that according to a report in the Guardian on 13 Dec 2013 'it has been an arrestable, racially aggravated offence Since 2007 to use the word "pi*ey", which is an offensive and derogatory word used to refer to Irish or Romany travellers'.

I can't stand the gypsies. If you've ever been down to Severalls auction on a Saturday am you'll see them there selling on stolen goods. You can pick them out of a crowd easily as they're dirty, scruffy, trashy and usually have a big wadge of someone else's cash in their back pocket. "****" is no more a derogatory term for Irish/Romanian travellers than them using the word "Gorger" to describe someone who is not accepted by gypsies. Perhaps its a case that racial aggravation is so often one sided.

Yes because the editor personally reviews and authorises each post before it appears on the site , I mean its not like the site utilises a comments posting engine used by local news sites across the country.

If you don't like is perhaps press the report button instead of posting ludicrously stupid comments.

the term is very old

"According to the Oxford English Dictionary, its first use in print was in the Times in 1837, referring to strangers who had come to the Isle of Sheppey island to harvest. Later that century it meant a "turnpike traveller" or vagabond.

But in more recent years it has become a term of abuse and in the eyes of the law using it can even be deemed a racist offence, given its association with Irish travellers and Roma Gypsies"

Pah - this liberal need to assuage the hurt feelings of a group of meandering marauders is risible. The reason p i k e y is pejorative (I question "racist") is in large part due to the aberrant actions of those in question. The larceny, filth and generally distasteful and antisocial behaviour usually associated with these itinerant tribes generates negative reactions and associative contemptuous perceptions. They become associated with the term colloquially used to describe this collective. In this case "p i k e y". if we don't use that word we will use others. Using feel-good euphemisms like "traveler" will not change the deep-rootedd and justifiable judgement of these people: it is they who need to change.

And I fail to accept that my use of a *word* can be deemed a prosecutable offence. Call my a blimey limey, but that's my take. (Unless of course, "limey" also is a punishable offence. Perhaps my sensitive thin skin maybe bruised by a verbal reminder and association with those that conquered the world, avoiding scurvy whilst trafficking in slaves and others of bound under indentured servitude whilst inflicting the first known deliberate case(s) of biological warfare upon natives of the stolen and conquered lands.)

Couldn't agree more Red Tape. Can just see their lawyer getting up in court and saying "M'lord, under the European Convention of Human Rights, my clients have every right to nick someone elses property as its their way of life".
