A NEW training centre, jobs and offices are set to be built in Harwich to spark the town's regeneration.

Tendring Council has announced the new leaseholder of Gas House Quay, which has been branded as major coup for the area.

Fibre optics company CCL UK, which is currently based in Colchester, will take over the site with plans for future expansion in the offshore energy sector.

It will involve an office, depot, training centre and storage facilities hoped to be created within months.

Council leader Mick Page said: “I have made it clear that Tendring and Harwich are open for business and this shows that is very much the case. This is not a promise of something in the future – this is here and now.

“I am hoping it is just the start of things to come – and an excellent start at that.”
