DENTISTS swapped their drills for their bikes as they raised thousands of pounds for charity by cycling the length of Great Britain.

William Tweddell and David Bruce Buchanan cycled more than 900 miles from John O'Groats in the North East of Scotland, to Land's End, the most southerly part of England.

The pair, who work at Great Horkesley Dental Studio, in Keelers Way, were part of a 20-strong team which took nine days to complete the ride.

So far, the group has raised £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Tweddell said: “It wasn't easy. I really struggled to get going each morning - waking up with the knowledge that we had to cycle 100 miles was not particularly motivating.”

He added: “Luckily, everyone involved in the ride was fantastic.

“I couldn't have completed such a distance without their support.

“We're extremely thankful to everyone who sponsored us – we knew that the money we raised by doing the ride would help those with cancer, which really kept us going when times got tough.”

Mr Bruce added: “When we finally reached Land's End, we felt unstoppable.

“The whole experience was amazing, and it felt fantastic to be able to take part while raising money for such a worthy cause.”
