DRIVERS could avoid a penalty for breaking a new speed limit due to an obstructed sign, councillors fear.
The 30mph limit on Cox’s Hill in Lawford was extended by 280 metres by Essex County Council earlier this year after a three year battle.
Lawford Parish Council chairman Alan Coley, told a meeting on Monday,: “The signage on Cox’s Hill is still obscured. It could be a get out of jail free card if the sign is not right.”
An Essex County Council spokesman said: "Following recent concerns we will arrange an inspection of the site to check whether the signs are all in the correct place and take any necessary action if they are not.”
