HEROIC paramedics who came to the aid of families following a devastating explosion in Clacton have been presented with special awards.

Two homes were destroyed and ten people injured in the huge blast at a house in Cloes Lane on February 5.

Hela and David Davies were rushed to hospital after suffering severe burns.

Son-in-law Stuart Giles thanked ambulance and hospital staff for their help and said Mr and Mrs Davies were now recovering at their new home.

“Any award for them is not enough. If I could put them all forward for knighthoods I would,” he said.

“I don’t think you can thank someone who saves your mum and dad’s lives enough.

“But I am very pleased that they have been recognised by their peers and we are proud of every single one of them. They have my heartfelt gratitude.”

Nine members of staff at the East of England Ambulance Service have now been honoured with chief officer’s commendations for the roles they played in helping the victims of the explosion.

They include Steve Box, Gareth Boynton, Peter Bumphrey, Sarah Ford, Mark Frith, David Hammond, Gail Little, Steve Salter and James Samouelle.
