RESIDENTS will have to pay to park in parts of Colchester for the first time under final plans published today.

Colchester Council has outlined the areas where residents parking permits will be introduced across the borough, from September.

Christ Church will see the biggest change to current arrangements.

There will be no significant change to parking arrangements in:

• Enid Way, Golden Dawn, Hugh Dickinson Road, Prior Way and Rose Crescent
• Catchpool Road, Jarmin Road and Colne Bank Avenue
• Castle Road and Roman Road
• Sussex Road, New Kiln Road, Endsleigh Court, The Chantry and Lockhart Avenue
• Oaks Drive

Changes will be made in Wellesley Road, where parking bays will be for permit holders only, between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Parking for drivers with school permits will be allowed in some bays between 8.30am and 9.30am and between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Martin Hunt, borough councillor responsible for street services, launched a consultation on the proposals in January to gauge public opinion.

He said: "We received many comments during the consultation and these have shaped the proposals that will be implemented.

“It is clear that there are strong views on where and when permit parking should be provided.

“In many areas people made it clear they wanted no change and I have, as promised, responded to this.”

He added: “The changes planned for each of the 13 zones still aim to better enable residents living in permit areas, and their visitors, to park.

“Considering each zone in turn, they also reflect the views of other uses found in some residential areas, including schools and businesses.”
