TRAIN tracks at Colchester North Station are set for a £7million upgrade.

The work means passengers should be able to enjoy more reliable journeys.

Network Rail's work starts on Saturday, May 17 and will run each weekend until July 6, which means some lines will be closed around Colchester North Station at weekends.

Greater Anglia, which operates trains between north Essex and London, has amended its weekend timetable to tie in with the upgrade.

It says no bus replacements will be needed.

Richard Schofield, Network Rail route managing director for the Anglia region, said: “We are investing millions of pounds to upgrade the tracks at Colchester station so that passengers across Anglia get more reliable and punctual trains.

“This is urgently required work and will deliver a much better level of service to the growing number of passengers that rely on rail services."

He added: “We are sorry that some disruption will be caused over the weekends that we do this work and have worked closely with Greater Anglia to minimise the impact on the travelling public.

“We ask passengers to bear with the temporary disruption so that we can give them a better, more reliable service for the long term.”
