RESIDENTS say they intend to get on with their lives without ‘“major disruption” after plans to open a fast-food takeaway next to their back yard were thrown out.
KFC had planned to open a restaurant in Ipswich Road, in Colchester, next to the historic Lion and Lamb cottage.
But a planning inspector dismissed the company’s plans on appeal, saying they could have ruined residents’ lives.
Stephanie Dass, who lives in the cottage, said: “This is fantastic news.
“[The negative impact the development would have on us] has always been our principal objection on the basis that it was far too close to a residential property and that other residents in the locality would have also felt its impact.
“We are really delighted that all the campaigning by the residents and local support has helped towards the right decision.”
Neighbour David Haskell added: “This is great news of common spence and a true indication that local democracy works.
“We are very happy with the planning inspector’s decision and we can all now get on with our lives without the fear of this major disruption to it.”
KFC has now signalled its intention to open a branch in Stanway.
