A ROUNDABOUT at a notorious accident blackspot junction on the A120 could be built next year, it has been revealed.

Top-level talks, held to discuss the planned improvements to the Hare Green and Pellens Corner junctions, saw campaigners quiz Highways Agency officers over the ongoing safety scheme.

They were also reassured the roundabout would be built at Hare Green junction, near Harwich Road, with designs having already been drawn up.

Harwich MP Bernard Jenkin said: “The Highways Agency has got to do some design work and consult with local interested parties, but they think the Harwich Road roundabout rather than Pellens corner is likely to be the best option.

“We were also very concerned that there has been a very serious delay with the average speed cameras being installed.”

A Highways Agency spokesman said the safety scheme had started in 2013 had since seen designs completed and the purchase of new cameras.

“Severe weather conditions delayed the start of the scheme which coincided with the changing of contractors,” she said.

“We are now identifying resources, and programming work to start as soon as possible in this financial year.”
