STAFF and students are gearing up for an eco-friendly fun day.

Colchester Institute will host a Bee Green Day, which aims to show off the college’s eco credentials.

The event will include zumba dancers, a chef cook-off as well as live music on stage.

The electricity to power the stage will be generated by staff and students cycling a special bike.

The college’s two restaurants, the Balkerne Restaurant and the Colne Avenue Bistro, will also be operating a 10-mile menu, which means no food will come from further away than ten miles.

There will also be a vintage stall, a clothes swap and representatives from Colchester United.

Gary Horne, college vice-principal, said: “This has all be organised by our sustainability group, “Our aim is to power the campus wholly using self-generated electricity by 2019/20, so we’ve set ourselves a tough goal but we’re working hard to meet it.”

The event takes place tomorrow at Colchester Institute, in Sheepen Road, between 10am and 3pm.
