Cameron praises our jobs crusade

First published in News

PRIME Minister David Cameron visited Colchester to praise the town’s job centre – and the Gazette – for helping to get people back into work.

The Tory leader met residents at the job centre, in the High Street, before touring the Gazette’s offices in Brunel Way.

In an exclusive interview, Mr Cameron:

  •  Praised the success of a campaign by the Gazette and sister paper the Essex County Standard to find 100 apprenticeships in 100 days for youngsters
  • Highlighted Colchester as a key seat in next year’s general election
  • Emphasised the safety of youngsters was of paramount importance in relation to the future of school crossing patrols in Essex
  • Claimed the increased use of food banks was partly down to a rise in advertising about their existence
  • Stressed to would-be Ukip voters his party had the only plan to deliver changes to the European Union.

It`s OK folks, you can now drive up the bus lane on North Hill without being fined. Whats good for our self centred leader is good enough for us.

I expect the fine is in the post but you'll be paying as he'll put it down as expenses.

I'm not sure I'd want to enthusiastically share praise on the matter of jobs from a man who thinks that forcing job seekers to go to the job center will do anything other than bankrupt the people who are already poor, put additional stress on already overworked job center employees and bring more people to food banks. Also I hate that the government keeps running the lie about food bank take up being due to advertising - for a start the space in the papers etc mentioning food banks are because of the increases, they'd already shot up rapidly. Secondly, you can't just walk to a food bank and get food. Unless, as daily mail pointed out, you lie unscrupulously to take food that poorer people need just for the benefit of a lie filled article, of course. You need to be sent to one.

I think that praise is well deserved by all accounts. The Gazette is at the forefront of getting people back to work as it is our only local newspaper and it provides the necessary job information. Morons like catflap will sadly always exist - but, hopefully, the majority will have a more positive view of the jobs market. But worms does raise a good point, in that, in order to visit the Job Centre every day, people must have the money for transport, if they live away from the town centre. We haven't all got chauffer driven limos Mr Cameron.
