FOOTAGE from Channel 4 documentary Bouncers has been used by police in a bid to strip Colchester’s Silk Road bar of its licence.

Colchester Council’s licensing committee yesterday reviewed the St Botolph’s Street venue following an Essex Police request.

The police say the bar is the cause of a number of incidents, inside and in the street.

Sarah Le Fevre, the police’s legal representative, referred to 22 incidents – including serious assaults and drug use.

But Marcus Croskell, barrister for Silk Road, and its owner, Osman Rasih, argued some of the incidents could not be linked to the bar.

CCTV from the council’s cameras and clips from the documentary were used to show the door staff’s reactions to situations.

Colchester Council’s licensing committee will decided whether to take any action – which could range from a warning to revoking the licence – today or tomorrow.
