Two separate crashes on the A12 in Kelvedon are causing delays for drivers this afternoon.

A four-vehicle pile-up on the southbound carriageway at 12.30pm led to the road being closed by police for about an hour.

Fire crews from Tiptree, Witham and Braintree attended the scene and used cutting equipment to free a woman, who was trapped in her car, by 1.15pm.

An Essex Police spokesman confirmed the woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A second accident southbound, involving three vehicles, took place little more than an hour later, at about 2.45pm.

The road was partially blocked by the accident, and a police spokesman described the injuries as “minor”.

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said: "We’re treating five casualties and preparing to take three of them to hospital.

"All have neck and back pain but none are thought to be life threatening."

YES I KNOW thank GOD know-one was hurt, but please slow F*****G down, just because it is Easter the roads turn into the Nuremberg ring.
Mums in people carriers with screaming kids and by the way Daily Planer you also missed the 3 car break down faced angled in the wrong direction at an inside lane NEAR Easthorpe.
This is one of those days when you wish you were not on this earth, complete and utter chaos and the emergency services let themselves down here today.
There should have been better Proactive Visual Traffic calming measures in place after the first pile up.
Never mind ive gone to bed with some Valium 16.38 hrs.

Why?

Simple.

Because there aren't enough assets in place to actively and effectively police the situation; and there isn't a justice system in place that provides a sufficient deterrent to dis-incentivise the selfish morons who couldn't care less.
