Holdall stolen from outside Colchester flat

A HOLDALL stuffed with cash, computers, jewellery and other valuables was stolen from outside a flat.

Police are investigating the theft of the holdall which was left outside the front of a flat at John Kavenagh Court, Magdalen Street, Colchester.

It was taken between 11am and noon on Tuesday, April 1.

A  spokesman for Essex Police said: "The bag contained a three-figure sum of cash, Sony laptop, Acer laptop, jewellery, clothes and a Rotary watch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Shane Wills at Colchester police station on 101.

Obviously it's bad that someone has stolen this bag, but why would you leave a holdall of such high value outside a flat? Even presuming it was inside the private flat building and not on the street (in which case the list of suspects must be quite small...) I wouldn't consider leaving even one of those items unattended unless it were either locked in my house or locked in my car.

Would an insurance company even pay out for a bag you left outside your home? I mean, obviously they wouldn't pay out for cash, and I doubt they'd pay out for other things you left unattended in an unlocked place.
