COLCHESTER’S Essex County Hospital will shut in 12 months.
All 350 staff and services will be transferred to Colchester General Hospital or other medical centres.
Hospital bosses say parts of the site are outdated and it is better to deal with patients at one site.
The future for the Lexden Road site, which opened as a hospital in 1820, has not been resolved, but it is likely to be sold for housing.
