DETECTIVES are asking the public for help following the murder of a vulnerable brain damaged man.

Jim Attfield, 33, of East Bay, Colchester, was found near Castle Park stabbed more than a hundred times.

The father-of-five lived in assisted accommodation after suffering serious head injuries in a car crash four years ago.

He was found unconscious at 5.45am on Saturday and died soon after.

Chief Supt Carl O’Malley revealed they are no closer to finding a motive or how many people were involved.

He said: “We don’t know if there was more than one attacker or how many weapons were used.

“We have no identifiable motive and have a large gap in his movements from 10.10pm on Friday to when he was found.

“We are looking at all available CCTV. We are searching the park and we are trying to find a weapon but we need a breakthrough and need help from the public who can provide it.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex Police emergency hotline on 01245 282103.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
