TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘shy and polite’ man who was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning.

James Attfield, 33, of East Bay, Colchester was found by a passerby in Castle Park at 5.45am and died shortly after despite receving treatment from paramedics.

Detectives are treating his death as murder and an investigation is continuing.

His mother, Julie Finch, paid tribute to her son who fought back from a car accident four years ago which left him with difficulty speaking.

"James was known as Jim to his family and was always shy and polite,” she said.

“Over the years people commented on how good his manners were. He loved karaoke and would often visit local Colchester bars to take part. He also enjoyed playing darts and watching stand-up comedy."
