AN HISTORIC organ is set to be restored to its former glory.
Lottery funding means the Moot Hall organ, in Colchester Town Hall, can be removed and brought back to its best before being returned to the hall.
Works have now been approved by senior councillors at Colchester Council’s cabinet and a contractor appointed.
Built in 1902 by Norman & Beard the organ has been unplayable for more than ten years after problems with its inner workings and pipes.
The restoration works are funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £416,300 with match funding raised by The Friends of the Moot Hall Organ, including grants from The Hervey Benham Trust and The Essex Heritage Trust.
