THE company which runs the cruise liner on which tragic James Swinstead died says investigations are continuing into how he died.

Mr Swinstead died aboard the Marco Polo cruise ship on Valentine’s Day.

He died when a strong wave crashed through a dining room window.

A Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) spokesman said: “We confirm that the investigations into the incident of February 14 are continuing and whilst it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this stage.”

He added although widow Helen Swinstead was offered a 25 per cent discount off any further cruise, the offer was put to all passengers.

Passengers were also credited with £150 per cabin after an outbreak of the airborne Norovirus during the 42-day trip to the Amazon.

The spokesman added: “CMV recognises the distress to the family of James Swinstead at this difficult time.

“The company has made contact with the widow to express condolences on behalf of the management and the master and crew.

“Mrs Swinstead has also been offered assistance.”

A Swinstead family spokeswoman said: "We confirm that she has now received a letter from CMV - as their statement suggests.

"It was not clear in that letter what their offer of assistance entails.

"We have acknowledged their letter and written that we need to give this some thought and will be in contact in due course."
