A ROAD was closed and a teenager was arrested after a two-car crash in Colchester.

The smash happened on Magdalen Street when a Ford Mondeo and a Hyundai IX20 collided.

Police were called to the scene just after 9.30pm on Friday and closed the road between Military Road and Brook Street while they cleared the wreckage and debris left by the crash.

One of the drivers was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

Shaun Witten, 19, of Windsor Close, Colchester, has now been charged with drink driving, aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage, driving a vehicle without a licence and driving without insurance.

He has been bailed and will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 11.

The road was re-opened at about 11.15pm.

One building on Magdalen Street will have to be assessed by structural engineers after being damaged in the crash.
