A120 closed for six hours after police car smashes into telegraph poles

A MAIN road was closed for more than six hours after a police car smashed into two telegraph poles.

The patrol car also damaged a garden wall during the incident between Colchester and Coggeshall, near to Marks Tey shortly before 8pm on Friday. Power lines were brought down as well.

The car was on its way to an incident on the A12 at Rivenhall.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers lost control of a marked BMW 530 while travelling along the eastbound carriageway of the A120, near to Little Tey.

“The car struck a garden wall and two telegraph poles.”

Both occupants, male officers, were taken to Colchester General Hosptial by paramedics having sustained minor injuries.

They were later discharged and are recovering at home.

The road was closed until after 2am on Saturday while UK Power Networks engineers repaired fallen power lines.

Yes the police do a difficult job, but sometimes they do create just a suspicion that they are like silly adolescents let loose with very expensive toys.
Leaving aside the probably huge cost of the damage done and the inconvenience caused to others I wonder how some of these officers drive when not in uniform.

My thoughts entirely, I think we have all witnessed it, my partner was going round North Station roundabout one night only to be confronted by a police car coming towards her (the wrong way) when I complained they said it was an emergency response to a call in West Mersea and he was the nearest officer, really? Lets face it to the best of my knowledge telegraph poles don't wander into the road do they?
