A SPARE wheel was stolen from underneath a parked car.

The theft took place on Park Pale Farm, in Harwich Road, Great Oakley.

Thieves took the wheel from underneath a black Land Rover Discovery between Saturday, February 1 and Tuesday, February 11.

Pc Kevin Ward, investigating officer, said: "We’re looking to identify the criminal and the whereabouts of this tyre.

"If anyone saw any suspicious activity at the farm during the first few days of February then we would like to hear from them.

"We would also be keen to hear from those who have been offered a Land Rover spare wheel in recent days or those who are offered one via non-traditional methods in the near future.”

Anyone with information should contact Harwich police station on 101.

The surprise is finding a a car with a spare wheel.
Many maufacturers don't supply them these days just the tyre reinflator gunge that means a puncture can't be fixed and you have to buy a new tyre.

Or in the case of run flat tyres, you neither have no spare or re inflator gunk. I was left, fortunately at a service area, a couple of years ago after a tyre failed and the tread stripped off, it was too dangerous to drive on further even though the manufacturer claims they will run for 50 miles at no more than 50 mph. The breakdown recovery people were really good though (GEM) they took the wheel away and got a new tyre fitted within about 90 minutes.

personally im getting bored of news about the weather, and items relating to thefts or burglaries in our local area are pretty important. I have a spare wheel accessible from the outside of my vehicle and if its now the trend to steal these, well i'm glad its being reported about. The harwich and manningtree standard isnt just there to report on whats already on the bbc news 24 hours a day, its a news service for local communities. I know nothing about running a paper so choose not criticise.
