Angry residents who claim they were not consulted on parking charges are demanding a re-think.
Wivenhoe Town Council have installed meters in the Cook’s Shipyard car parks in Walter Radcliffe Road and have asked the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) to oversee the new charges, which will come into force on Monday.
But residents claim they were not consulted are calling on both on the organisations to cancel their plans and first ask their views.
Robert Parker, 67, of Pearl Walk, said: “A great number of people are very upset, nobody feels they were given their chance to express their views, if they reconsult they will certainly get the bugbears.
Wivenhoe Town Council mayor Andrea Vaughan said that councillors had called in the NEPP to the Cook’s estate car parks to help pay for its upkeep.
She said the council has a number of responsibilities including dredging the dock, which would cost thousands of pounds, and the dingy park and that they were always going to be pay and display car parks.
