COMMUNITY groups which service people in Colchester are being offered cash to put towards building works.

Colchester council has a pot of £28,000 to hand over to not-for-profit groups who provide a service available to everyone living in the town.

There is no upper limit on the size of grants available, and they can be spent on a range of building projects.

These include repairs to roofing and window frames, refurbishing kitchen facilities, improving signage and car parking, upgrading heating, electrics or plumbing, or improving disables access.

Applications can be made between Friday, February 7 and April 4.

Councillor Annie Feltham, responsible for community services, said: "I am pleased that we are able to provide this help and support for community and voluntary groups.

"Unfortunately we can't give money to every organisation that applies as our funds are limited, but we will do our best to use this money wisely to ensure it has impact where it is most needed."
