TWO parents have been accused of trying to cover up a crash their son had.

Anthony and Danielle Bairfelt, of Dunlin Court, Kelvedon, appeared before Colchester Magistrates’ Court each charged once with intending to pervert the course of justice.

It’s alleged the couple’s son Scott Bairfelt, took a Ford Fiesta without the owner’s permission and crashed it into a Mini in the car park of Stanway’s Harvester restaurant on August 1 last year.

Mrs Bairfelt, 47, is accused of giving false information to the police in Colchester to protect her son from prosecution on November 8, 2013.

Mr Bairfelt, 50, is is also accused of giving false information to the police in Colchester between August 1, 2013, and January 7, 2014, so his son could evade prosecution.

Their son also appeared at the court charged with perverting the course of justice by giving false information to evade prosecution - and faced charges for five other motoring offences.

Bairfelt is charged with driving the Ford Fiesta without due care and attention and causing up to £5,000 damage to it.

The 24-year-old, who lives at same address as his parents, is also charged with failing to stop to provide his details after the crash with the Mini.

A wing mirror and door on the Mini were damaged.

He is also charged with then failing to report details of that crash to the police within 24 hours.

Bairfelt was also not insured to drive the Ford Fiesta, it is alleged.

None of the three family members entered a plea to any of the charges facing them at court today.

Magistrates decided the case was serious enough to be referred to Chelmsford Crown Court when they will be expected to enter a plea.

All three family members are due there on April 28.

They were all granted bail.
