SEA cadets say plans to close a road leading to their headquarters will ruin their group.
Colchester Sea Cadets, based at King Edward Quay, on Colchester’s Hythe, face being cut off under proposals to stop vehicles using a 40m section of Distillery Road.
The road leads to their base on TS Colne Light.
Highways bosses want to turn Distillery Lane into a footpath and cycle route.
It would mean parents would not be able to pick up or drop off the cadets and the squad would not be able to hold its annual fundraisers by the quay.
Gillian Bolderstone, a leader at the cadet group, said: “If this goes ahead, our ship is sunk.
Essex County Council has said approval was granted with a condition attached to create a cycle path alongside a pedestrianised area.
