FUNDING for community projects will not be given out recklessly, according to a leading Colchester councillor.
The council has set aside £757,000 from its New Homes Bonus kitty to give to community groups.
The money is part of a Government incentive to encourage house building.
But Paul Smith, borough councillor responsible for business, said projects will have to show real promise to be considered for funding.
“We have to look at each item on its own merits.
“We are not committing to spending the whole of the £757,000, we will not be reckless.”
